Preparing For the Future
After the weary group of time travelers explained who they were and how they came to the past, Coran seemed less confused, but more concerned for their safety.
"What you have undertaken, my young friends, goes beyond the realm of reason. What if something had gone wrong during your daring rescue attempt? What if one of the present Voltron members had been killed in the process of your attempts of bravery? This could have changed dramatically your literal futures going forward!" Coran again scolded. "Frankly, I am surprised that the Keith and Allura of the future would approve of such a stunt!"
"Actually" Kyle braved. "Dad didn't really know what we were planning to do. He had always told us not to do something foolish. But Mom knew, though. She knew we would try it."
Keith closed his eyes and breathed a sigh of relief "Well, I at least had the sense to tell them not to attempt it" he thought to himself, grateful he hadn't completely lost common sense in the future. But not so happy that the impetuous future Queen seemingly approved the journey.
"Yeah, he would tell us that with every decision comes consequence, good or bad...and we should weight everything carefully." Kevin added.
"Yeah, Dad's such a bore sometimes...no creativity!" Kyle finished with a chuckle.
Keith suddenly opened his eyes wide with astonishment. "Who? Me? Boring? There's nothing boring about using your head!" It was now Keith's turn to scold. "Coran's right! You five were foolish to try a stunt like this! You could have all gotten yourselves killed! And you still have to go back to the future!"
Lance jumped in, defending the boys. "Oh come on, Keith, I've told you this for years. You're much too procedure oriented. You need to break out and be spontaneous for a change. Live life to the fullest! And stop being so ridged!"
"That's right, Lance! Be carefree...spontaneous...live for the moment...is that it? That type of thinking gets you into more trouble then anyone else I can think of! And then we're the guys who have to come bail you out of it! Thinking things through is always the best way to approach a situation. This way, you can be prepared for anything that may happen unexpectedly. Using your best judgement is the key...not acting on reckless abandon!"
Lance waved his hand in frustration at Keith. He turned to Kevin and Kyle. "So, this is what I have to look forward to in the future? Boring old, 'King Keith stick-in-the mud'?"
"I'm afraid so." Kevin replied. "He's kind of a party pooper." The group then broke into laughter. Keith however, was not amused.
"That's not nice to say about Dad!" Andretta jumped in on her father's side. "Dad's right and you know it! When you are prepared for the unexpected, you can react quicker to the situation and stand a better chance of getting out of it in one piece!"
"Oh back off, Andretta! Get off your soap box already!" Kevin shouted. "You're giving me a headache!"
Allura entered into the conversation at this point... "Alright, that's enough from everyone!"
In obedience, the three bickering siblings stopped arguing almost immediately at Allura's command. "Sorry ma'am."
Lance was taken back. "Whoa, I've never seen such a response from children before! You usually have to tell them six times before they even hear you talking to them!"
Andretta smiled, "That's because our parents have taught us to respect them, especially since everyone on Arus looks up to Queen Allura. We had to show a good example of obedience."
Coran returned to the original subject. "Well, now that you are here, you might as well get a good night's sleep before attempting to go back to the future." Coran bowed his head, shaking it; not even sure he believed what he had just said to the group.
"Great idea" Tyler said. "I'm pooped out. My brain hurts from too many figures rolling around in it. Time to power down all mental systems."
Pidge and Hunk looked at each other. Hunk said to Pidge: "He's a bigger egghead then you Pidge-O. He's too much!"
"Got to agree with you there, Hunk. Remind me to talk with my brother, Chip about helping Tyler get a personality while he's growing up." Pidge said, scratching his head.
